GP Benchmarking Update from GP Committee Chair, Dr Shaima Villait

Wednesday 20th November 2024

Dear IDF members

It has been almost a year since we launched the Benchmarking tool for our primary care members. Our bespoke Benchmarking tool created specifically for primary care doctors in the independent sector, is the only tool available currently in the market and is a complimentary benefit for members. Benchmarking is part of the CQC Effective KLOE’s and will soon be made compulsory for inspections.

Benchmarking can help our practices in the following ways:

  • Improving patient care

Benchmarking can help identify and adopt best practices, which can lead to better patient outcomes and experiences.

  • Increasing efficiency

Benchmarking can help identify and eliminate inefficiencies, which can lead to cost savings and improved resource allocation.

  • Promoting transparency

Benchmarking data can be shared publicly, which can foster transparency and accountability in the healthcare industry.

  • Driving innovation

Benchmarking can encourage organisations to innovate and adopt new approaches by comparing themselves to top performers.

  • Assessing financial performance

Financial benchmarking can help GP practices understand their financial performance and how it compares to industry standards. This can help us make data-driven decisions and ensure the long-term success of their practice.

  • Identifying areas for improvement

Benchmarking can help our GP practices identify where there's room for improvement by comparing our key performance indicators (KPIs) against industry standards

We have started with a clinical metrics and a patient questionnaire, but we will create more benchmarking metrics over the 3 years we have committed to provide this service to our members for.

Key for this to be a success is increasing the use of the tool by our members. If there are any specific metrics you feel your practice would benefit from, please let us know.
