IDF Response to NHS Elective Reform Plan

Friday 10th January 2025

We are pleased to see the NHS Elective Reform Plan published today and its recognition of the vital role that the independent sector plays in the UK healthcare system alongside the NHS.

This Labour Government has recognised the need for an integrated, collaborative approach between the NHS and the independent sector to ensure the best patient outcomes possible and to improve patient choice regarding their care.

We welcome their commitment to working more closely with the independent sector over the coming years to achieve elective care targets and their commitment to updating the Partnership Agreement. We also support the increased provision of information to patients on care options in the independent sector. We are excited to see how these new relationships can further share resources and contribute to the development and adoption of best practice across the healthcare system.

It’s vital that the whole of the independent sector, including independent doctors, is considered in future discussions.

The IDF looks forward to engaging with the Government, NHS and other independent providers to ensure that independent doctors are fairly consulted on and represented in the implementation of the Elective Reform Plan and upcoming healthcare system strategies.
