As the UK’s leading independent doctors' organisation for GPs and specialists, we represent our members’ interests through education, networking, appraisal, revalidation, and regulatory advice.

 

The Independent Doctors Federation (IDF) is the leading membership organisation representing Independent medical practitioners in the UK for both specialists and general practitioners. We provide advice on all aspects of private medicine including education, regulation, appraisal and revalidation, links to organisations who can provide assistance with your practice, as well as networking and peer support.

 

The IDF has close links with the British Medical Association and is represented on its Private Practice Committee, as well as working with the Care Quality Commission, Department of Health, the Royal Colleges, private health insurers and private hospital providers.

We are also a Designated Body with our own Responsible Officer and offer a successful appraisal scheme for over 700 of our members which is highly regarded by the GMC.

IDF membership provides access to leading advice on all issues relating to independent healthcare and, through our various committees, represents members' views to all relevant organisations affecting independent practice. We also have an active social and educational calendar providing networking opportunities and building valuable friendships between colleagues.

We aim to promote excellence in the independent medical sector by providing a comprehensive range of educational, professional and networking services, helping our members to fulfil their potential and deliver the best possible care for their patients.

We seek to be recognised as the UK's premier membership body for independent doctors and will continue to review our range of services and to engage with relevant stakeholders to this end.

The IDF is governed by its Articles of Association, which make reference to the Model Articles of Association.  

Members are also bound by the IDF Member Handbook.
