Join our team of Appraisers!

Friday 5th January 2024

We are pleased to announce that we are seeking to train a new cohort of IDF appraisers!

Our connected membership is increasingly expanding, and we're looking to grow our team of appraisers across various geographical locations and specialties, to meet the needs of our diverse and growing community of connected doctors. Being an IDF appraiser provides a unique opportunity to support colleagues from various specialties through the appraisal and revalidation process.

If you're not currently an IDF member and wish to take on the rewarding role of an appraiser, we've got the perfect opportunity for you. Click here to discover how you can become an IDF member and explore the steps to join our esteemed team of appraisers.

Please note you must be an IDF member to be considered as an appraiser. Any member wishing to become an IDF appraiser must undertake the training, irrespective of any training and/or experience they have received as an appraiser in other organisations. Attendance at the whole course is required.

Keep reading below to learn about the recruitment and training process!

The training will take place on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April 2024. The first day of training will be held face to face and the second day will be held virtually on Zoom. There will be some preparatory work to be undertaken before attending the course.

Upon successful completion of the training and selection process, you will be appointed as an appraiser on a probationary basis. At least two of your first appraisals will be considered probationary. As part of the probationary period, you will be required to attend two Appraiser Learn and Network sessions, to share learning and network with other new and experienced IDF appraisers. These are supportive sessions where you can ask questions and discuss challenges you may have faced in the role. A programme of dates will be circulated ahead of the training for you to choose from and run in both lunchtime and evening slots.

IDF appraisers are required to undergo regular update training; three full days of training are offered each year. It is a requirement that every appraiser must attend at least one of these days. IDF appraisers are required to carry out at minimum of six IDF appraisals per year, in order to maintain their skills.

The following link to the IDF Medical Appraisal Policy provides you with relevant background information; the person specification for the appraiser role can be found on pages 18 and 19. Please note that the IDF appraisal process is completed online, so IT skills are an important aspect of the specification.

If you are interested in becoming an IDF appraiser, and would like to be considered for the New Appraiser training, please return the following documents to revalidation@idf.co.uk by close of business on Wednesday 31st January 2024

  • An up to date CV
  • Completed self-assessment (page 25-26 of the IDF Medical Appraisal Policy)
  • Completed self-declaration (page 27-29 of the IDF Medical Appraisal Policy)
  •  Approximately how many appraisals you envisage being able to undertake per year

If you are selected for the training, you will be invoiced for a deposit of £200. The receipt of this payment, together with the completion of the required preparatory work, will secure your place on the course. The £200 deposit will be refunded in full on completion of your probationary period. If you are not successfully appointed as an IDF appraiser, this will be refunded following your attendance at the course.

Please note there are limited places available on the course and our selection process will take into consideration the location and specialty of the doctors applying, in order to provide a breadth of geographical and specialty coverage for members being appraised through the IDF system. Please be aware that depending on the number of applications received, we may carry out brief telephone interviews as part of the selection process.

We believe that together, we can achieve great things and create a positive impact in the field of healthcare. We look forward to the possibility of welcoming you to our team and collectively shaping the future of appraisal and revalidation.
