What will future IDF appraisals be like?

Work continues between partners across the UK, including the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, GMC, and BMA, to take forwards some of the benefits of the rebalanced Medical Appraisal 2020 in a more permanent format for ongoing use. 

Future IDF Medical Appraisals will build on the positives of IDF Medical Appraisal 2020 while recognising the need for the IDF RO to have sufficient assurance about connected members when making revalidation recommendations.

Future IDF Medical Appraisals will 
• continue to be supportive and flexible to appraisees according to individual circumstances
• continue to emphasise quality of supporting information rather than quantity
• encourage appraisees to be proportionate in their preparation 
• recognise the importance of appraisees maintaining their health and well-being in order to be able to offer high quality and safe care
• continue to consider the impact of events since the last appraisal on the appraisee’s personal and professional development
