IDF Evening Webinar - Psychiatric negligence: difficult to prove? Some real life cases

Event Details

We are delighted to invite you to our Evening Webinar with Professor Ann Mortimer who will be presenting on Psychiatric negligence: difficult to prove?  Some real life cases

Psychiatric negligence is considered difficult to prove, compared to other medical specialisms.  The reasons for this include that harm in patients is often self-inflicted and that there is a broad range of opinion in mental health practice.  However, the devolution of much front-line clinical work to non-psychiatrist mental health professionals who lack psychopathological expertise, the cult of brief focused repetitive ‘assessments’ in isolation, lack of continuity of care, poor standards of risk assessment, reliance on tick box check lists, and persistent team ‘groupthink’ can be diametrically opposed to patient welfare.  A number of examples of good and poor practice will be presented.

Learning objectives:

  •  To understand how patient management can go so wrong that it becomes legally indefensible.

PLEASE NOTE
