Diversity, Representation & Unconscious Bias with Ret. Chief Supt. Raj Kohli

Event Details

We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by retired Chief Superintendent Raj Kohli, who will deliver a talk to IDF members on his experiences of diversity, representation & unconscious bias. We are excited to share that Lord Singh of Wimbledon will be there to introduce Raj on the evening.

Raj will share stories on his life and career and will also be available to take questions at the end of the talk.

Following this, there will be a chance for light refreshments and networking in the Fellow's Lounge.

This talk promises to be enlightening and will provide key insights to take away.

More about Retired Chief Superintendent Raj Kohli

Raj joined the MPS in August 1992 where he was posted to Hillingdon Borough as a PC and then latterly as a t/DC.

He was promoted to PS in 1994, being posted to Hammersmith & Fulham prior to being posted to what is now known as Westminster BCU in 1996 as a DS in charge of a pro-active crime team focussing on robberies, pickpocket teams and shoplifters in the Oxford Street and Regent Street areas. In 1999 he was promoted to Inspector where he ran the Operations department before being asked to join AC Tarique Ghaffur's private office, where he played a staff officer role for around 18 months.

After completing the SIO course at Hendon he was posted to Brent as a DI, working in the main office and the pro-active crime unit. He remained at Brent upon being promoted to CI and was placed in charge of the South Kilburn area of Brent. It was during this posting he established a very strong community engagement approach to policing, leading on stop and search and the issues it was causing in the area.

He was promoted to Supt in 2008 and posted to Camden before helping deliver the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012, shortly after which he was posted to the Met Change Program. Between 2016 and 2018 he worked in HR helping develop the diversity strategy before becoming the temp Borough Commander at Hounslow between 2018 and 2020.

In 2020 he was made a substantive Chief Supt and BCU Commander for Camden & Islington before a level transfer to Hampshire in 2021 where he held the role of head of Partnerships, Vulnerability and Protection before retiring in 2023.

Raj is a very experienced public order commander, public speaker, mentor and coach and has supported many dozens of colleagues in career development. In 2014 he won the British Indian Overseas award for Services to the Community and has a number of commendations for his work in the police.
