We invite you to join us for our lunch webinar with Dr Simon Marsh who will be presenting on How to Prevent Breast Cancer .

Whilst the early detection of breast cancer, coupled with the incremental improvements in treatment, have led to increasing survival rates, the incidence continues to increase. Attention has turned to what might be done to prevent breast cancer occurring. This would involve a detailed understanding of the causes of breast cancer. Whilst this still eludes us, we have developed a much greater understanding of the risk factors that might be modified to reduce the incidence. Extrinsic (lifestyle) factors can be modified by appropriate health education to the public (who may choose, or not, to alter their lifestyles) whilst intrinsic (genetic) factors may be amenable to new genetic techniques in the not-too-distant future. To add to these potential interventions is the role of chemoprevention, where a 5-year course of anti-hormone medication can reduce the risk in high-risk women. Taken together, it should be possible to begin to reduce the incidence of breast cancer in future.
